iPhone 5 Release Date: Shock Demand as iPhone 4S Launch Stock Sells Out on Apple Website
The Apple online store indicated today that its launch day stock of the newly unveiled iPhone 4S has been sold out online, just a day following co-founder Steve Jobs' funeral.
Although Apple’s newly upgraded smartphone device cast a bit of disappointment to eager fans who had been waiting for a newly designed iPhone 5 rather than the iPhone 4S, there is no doubt that the phone is still one of the hottest devices around.
According to network carrier AT&T, the pre-orders that they have received for the new device have made it the fastest selling iPhone launch. Within 12 hours of the launch, AT&T has received over 200,000 pre-orders.
Pre-sale figures have not yet been released by Verizon and Sprint.
According to PCMag, analyst Brian White at Ticonderoga estimated that total iPhone sales will reach 27 million smartphones between now and December.
IHS iSuppli Design believes that iPhone sales will reach 83.6 million units worldwide in 2011.
Some analysts believe that many have decided to purchase an iPhone 4S to commemorate the legacy of Steve Jobs.
Reuters reported that Janney Montgomery Scott analyst Bill Choi said: "Store traffic will increase and there's going to be some sentiment-related purchases."
The iPhone 4S hits shelves across the U.S. on Oct 14. Already some people are camping outside of Apple’s 5th Avenue store in New York City.
