iPhone 5 Release Date: Siri Ported onto iPod Touch
Siri was supposed to be an exclusive feature on the iPhone 4S, but it has been ported onto many older Apple devices.
Engadget, a technology website, reported that hacker teams "euwars" and "rud0lf77" were successful at porting Siri onto an iPod Touch.
The team released video of their Siri port for the iPod Touch on YouTube. Images show the enable or disable Siri screen on an iPod.
After the release of the iPhone 4S, Siri ports quickly showed up on the iPhone 4.
Developer Steven Troughton-Smith, a 9to5Mac associate, was able to upload Siri's interface onto an iPhone 4.
However, he was not successful at connecting Siri to Apple’s servers, because the company is not authenticating commands to its servers from the iPhone 4 or any other device.
Hackers have come across the same problem with their Siri port, as have developers who have ported Siri to the iPad and iPad 2.
Industry experts suggested that Apple might want Siri to be a program especially for the iPhone 4S due to its special microphone, or because the A5 processor in the iPhone 4S allows it to run faster.
Apple has not commented on why it will not allow other devices to run Siri. It has only stated the program will be “exclusive” to the iPhone 4S.
9to5Mac, a technology website, previously noted that there is no technical reason why Siri could not run on the iPhone 4.
The iPhone 4’s hardware is capable of supporting Siri’s artificial intelligence system.
“The A4 processor in the iPhone 4 is said to be powerful enough to run such a program,” said 9to5Mac.
