iPhone 5 Release Date: Top Rumored Specs Set for Next Generation Model
Apple's much anticipated iPhone 5 is expected to feature several interesting specs that may be revealed at the company's Oct. 4 media event.
The iPhone 5 is expected to come with pre-installed iOS 5 software. Added features such as Notification Center, iMessage, Newsstand and Reminders will also come with the smartphone. iCloud will be the iPhone's storage system that saves user's music, photos, apps, calendars, documents in cloud and wirelessly pushes them to all iOS devices.
The iPhone 5's screen size may be a little larger than the last iPhone. Its screen size could range from 3.7 to 4-inches. The physical makeup of the smartphone will sport a teardrop design and edge-to-edge retina display. An aluminum plate casing is said to be replacing the current glass backing of the iPhone 4. An analyst with Rodman & Renshaw reported that the iPhone 5 could resemble a smaller version of the iPad.
The iPhone 5's purported prototypes reveal that it may have a rectangular button instead of the circular one found on the iPhone 4. Steve Jobs was rumored to not want any physical buttons on the iPhone since its very first incarnation.
The smartphone will also come with an eight-MP camera that can take panoramic photos and film 1080p full HD videos. Recently, an iOS code section revealed that the next iPhone will allow users to take panoramic photos with the photo app.
The media event's invitation title, "Let's Talk iPhone", is said to be alluding to the new phone's voice-recognition features. The rumored phone's 1GB RAM is mainly featured as a means to support and run this feature.
Analysts expect to see the iPhone 5 become fire-proof. Apple reportedly filed a patent application for an advanced halogen-free flame retardant material that could be used for this smartphone and other Apple products.
Wireless charging is also expected to be integrated into the phone. 16/32/64 GB of internal storage are the hard drive spaces that have been predicted for the iPhone 5.
For those interested in the iPhone 5's gaming capabilities, the rumored Imagination Technologies' PowerVR Series6 mobile graphics processing architecture will handle those activities.
Users can also look forward to the rumored integration of NFC technology. This feature will allow users to make payments anywhere by waving their iPhone in front of a contactless payment scanner. Some say this feature is unlikely however due to lack of smartphone industry standards.
The smartphone will be carried by retailers Sprint, Verizon and AT&T.
The press conference will take place at Apple's Cupertino, California headquarters. These rumors and more will finally be revealed by the company on Oct. 4.
