The unlocked iPhone 4S will only run on GSM networks which means it cannot be used on Sprint or Verizon.

It also appears that the unlocked iPhone 4S can be used on T-Mobile, according to 9to5Mac.

But Apple specifically states that the unlocked version works only on “GSM Networks” but does not mention T-Mobile specifically. The unlocked iPhone 4S will only be capable of accessing the 2G Edge network’s speeds, according to the tech site.

Apple also stated on its site that this version of the device will come without a micro-SIM card, so a user will have to possess an active micro-SIM card from any supported GSM carrier worldwide.

In order to begin using an unlocked iPhone 4S, a micro-SIM must be inserted into the device’s slot before turning the smartphone on.

Once the iPhone 4S is powered up it will display onscreen instructions for setting up the smartphone.

Apple began selling unlocked versions of its smartphones in the U.S. a few months ago.

The company had been making these unlocked devices available in other countries before it started selling them in the U.S.

For customers looking to find a contract free iPhone, they will not have to wait too long after the smartphone’s initial launch.

Apple began offering pre-orders for the iPhone 4S early this morning.

The smartphone will ship on October 14 and will be available on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.
