BusinessInsider suggested that Apple is releasing major updates for all of its products in the next year, because Apple is known for providing frequent updates for its products in conjunction with the fact that several products have not received major updates in several years.

iMac
Introduced in 1998, the iMac has received four major updates in 13 years that have taken it from the "Bondi blue" G3 model to the current flat screen aluminum unibody model.
The iMac was last revamped in 2009 and it has since only received minor updates.
BusinessInsider suggested that the iMac is due for a major update in 2012 to revamp the aluminum unibody chassis, which has been around since 2007.
iPod Classic
Introduced in 2011, the iPod Classic has received four major updates in 10 years that have made it slimmer and increased its music capacity. The iPod Classic was last revamped in 2007 and it has since only received minor updates.
BusinessInsider suggests that the iPod Classic is due for a major update in 2012 because it has only received minor updates since 2007.
Other sources suggest that the Classic may soon be discontinued due to consumers favoring touch screen music players.
iPod Mini/Nano
Introduced in 2005, the iPod Nano replaced the iPod Mini, which debuted in 2004 and it was quickly discontinued. The iPod Nano has received six major updates eight years that have varied its size, color availability, and introduced a touch screen display.
The iPod Nano was last revamped in 2010 and it has since received one minor update.
BusinessInsider suggested that the iPod Nano may eventually be phased out of the product line as the demand for music-equipped smartphones continues.
iPod Shuffle
Introduced in 2005, the iPod Shuffle has received three major updates in seven years that have varied its size, shape, and USB connectivity. The iPod Shuffle was last revamped in 2010 and it has since received one minor update.
