iPhone 5 Release Date: Which Apple Products Will Receive Updates? Part 2
Reports indicate that Apple is planning major design overhauls for a number of its products in 2012.
Business-Insider suggested that Apple is releasing major updates for all of its products in the next year, because Apple is known for providing frequent updates for its products in conjunction with the fact that several products have not received major updates in several years.
Business-Insider details a rundown of the update patterns for Apple's major products and the plausibility of them being apart of a major 2012 overhaul.
iPod Touch
Introduced in 2007, the iPod Touch has received two major updates in five years, including iOS launches and debuts of other software. The iPod Touch was last revamped in 2010 and it has since received one minor update.
Business-Insider suggested that because of its similarity to the iPhone, the iPod Touch is due for an update in 2012. Insiders have considered the iPod Touch essentially a phone-less iPhone.
iPhone
Introduced in 2007, the iPhone has received two major updates in five years that have provided new external designs, two new iOS's and other major software updates. The iPhone was last revamped in 2010 and it has since received one minor update.
Business-Insider suggested that the iPhone is due for a major update in 2012 due to Apple’s routine of providing major and minor updates for the device in alternating years. As 2011 saw a minor update, 2012 should see a major one.
iPad
Introduced in 2010, the iPad has received no major updates but it did receive one moderate update to its processor and iOS.
Business-Insider suggested that the iPad will have a similar update schedule to the iPhone and is due for a major update in 2012 after its moderate update in 2011.
