iPhone 5 Renderings Released: Photos Reveal Device's Appearance
Renderings of Apple’s iPhone 5 were developed and released by tech website MacRumors.com on Wednesday.
The site had the renderings designed by CiccareseDesign, who based their work on the recently leaked schematics of case designs by Chinese manufacturers for the iPhone 5.
“Measurements were taken against the original case design leaks, and then imported into 3D modeling software,” wrote Arnold Kim on MacRumors.

He also states that they wanted to create images that were high quality and as close to the leaked case designs as possible.
According to MacRumors the designs show manufacturers what areas need to be open or exposed for cases, but reveal little else. This has caused confusion in the past for future cases. The iPad 2 cases had a slot for an extra port at the top which ended up being a hole for a microphone. They state that there are a few areas in the iPhone 5 case designs that are open to interpretation.
Their renderings feature a wider oval shaped home button, a feature they included based on what they found in the case designs. It is possible that the space left in the case design could be used by Apple for swiping across the home button in a left to right or right to left manner, not for actually widening it.
The screen size was not easy to determine just by the case design according to MacRumors, but they decided to enlarge it based on the space shown for it in the schematics.
The back of the device in the renderings resembles an iPod touch with a thin tapered design.
The calculations for their designs for the iPhone 5 are 4.33” x 2.36” and .27” thickness at the top and .21” at the bottom. Their new design is actually shorter than the iPhone 4, but slightly wider and thinner.
The iPhone 5 is set for a September or October release this year.
