iPhone 5 Rumor: 4-Inch Display Confirmed

Three major publications have all weighed in on the display for the next-generation iPhone, including the Wall Street Journal, Reuters and Bloomberg.

All three publications are reporting that the device will have a screen that will measure in at 4-inches.

This is not a surprise to those who have been following the iPhone 5 rumor mill since the 4S launch back in October last year.

The 4S was expected to have a larger display, but ended up being released with an identical body type to its predecessor, the iPhone 4.

The 4-inch display is also said to be the brainchild of Steve Jobs who is said to have worked closely with Apple on the sixth-generation iPhone before his passing at the end of last year.

The iPhone has sported a 3.5-inch Retina display since the original version's launch in 2007. However, many critics are now saying Apple needs to change its approach due to increasing competition.

There are many Android devices that feature screens exceeding 4-inches, including the Samsung Galaxy S3 that will feature a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display.

The Galaxy Nexus also has a screen that measures in at 4.65-inches.

There have also been rumors of Apple sticking to its guns and not enlarging the display on the device. However, various manufacturers including LG and Sharp have reported that the Cupertino-based company has already placed orders for the 4-inch screens to be used for the next-iPhone.

Other rumored features for the Apple smartphone include an updated version of Siri, a more powerful rear camera and iOS 6.

A feature that has all but been confirmed for the iPhone is 4G LTE connectivity.

The third-generation iPad is LTE capable, so there is no reason why Apple will not use the technology on its upcoming smartphone.
