iPhone 5 'Release' Unveiling Disappoints, But Siri Excites
Apple unveiled its new iPhone Tuesday, except the iPhone was not really the anxiously-awaited iPhone 5 but the iPhone 4s, described as an iPhone 4 with slightly different features.
The computer tech company has actually failed to live up to the swirl of heightened expectations it inspired among fans when it changed from the iPhone 3 G to the iPhone 3Gs.
For millions of iPhone fans looking to be jettisoned into a new era of iPhone technology, Tuesday's announcement could only be a major let down.
But there was a silver lining to yesterday’s show and tell, according to some commentators and observers who noted that "Sri," the new voice assistant, was still a cause for celebration.
Siri appears to have the stuff of legends. It brings voice control interactive technology to instinctive ease, and it uses natural sounds instead of electronic preset commands, so you can speak to it like a person.
You can ask it about the weather and it will promptly provide you with the forecast. It will write your text and emails and offer you a list of the best restaurants ranked by rating as well.
According to Apple's website, "Siri not only understands what you say, it's smart enough to know what you mean. So when you ask 'Any good burger joints around here?' Siri will reply, 'I found a number of burger restaurants near you.' "
Then you can say, "Hmm. How about tacos?" Siri remembers that you initially asked about restaurants, so it will look for Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood.
The device also provides GPS navigation and it can be programmed to serve as a reminder tool to those absentminded users, so you will never have to leave your car keys behind again. If you tell it to remind you to call a certain party when you get home it will find the party in your address book.
Siri's functions and interactive personal applications will, for many, make it an integral part of daily activity.
