iPhone 5S Pre-Orders to Begin Next Week
iPhone 5S pre-orders will be available starting next week.
Chinese mobile carriers China Telecom and China Unicom will begin taking reservations for Apple's upcoming iPhone 5S and low-cost iPhone 5C starting next week. Deliveries are expected to be fulfilled the week after, according a report from Reuters.
Apple will hold a satellite launch event in Beijing on Sept. 11 just hours after the new devices are unveiled at the company's main headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. on Sept. 10.
China has become a prime target for Apple, as the company is scheduling the iPhone release there so close to the U.S. one. It used to take much longer for Apple products to be available in China. The day after the unveiling, both China Telecom and China Unicom will begin accepting pre-orders for the new device.
This new report supports previous rumors, stating that Apple will launch the first wave of new iPhones starting Friday Sept. 20, which is about a week after the official unveiling takes place.
China Telecom and China Unicom are the only carriers in China to offer the iPhone. China Mobile, the country's largest carrier does not have the iPhone, however; there have been reports stating that the company will strike a deal with Apple to carry its products soon.
The China Mobile iPhone launch could take place sometime before the end of the year. The release might be delayed due to the need for regulatory approval of unique iPhone hardware compatible with the company's network.
Apple will officially unveil the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C at the company's media event set to take place on Sept. 10.
The iPhone 5C is expected to feature a new plastic exterior and lower grade specs. The iPhone 5S is rumored to come with a new processor and fingerprint sensor.
