iPhone 6 to Feature a 5-Inch Screen? Apple CEO Tim Cook Says No
Apple is not quite ready to release a new version of the iPhone with a 5-inch display, according to comments made by the company's CEO Tim Cook.
There has been much speculation over Apple launching a device with the same screen size as Samsung's flagship Galaxy S4. Various fans of the company have also expressed their desire for the company to deliver something with a much bigger screen.
Cook touched on the subject during yesterdays Q2 financial results call admitting that Apple was not yet ready to launch a smartphone with this kind of display.
"My view continues to be that iPhone 5 has the best display in the industry," said Cook. "We always strive to create the very best display. Some customers value large screen size. Others value other factors such as resolution, color quality, white balance, reflectivity, power consumption, compatibility of apps, and portability."
He also knocked some of Apple's competitors, who have taken a different route with the inner workings of the device.
"Our competitors have made some significant tradeoffs in many of these areas to ship a larger display. We would not ship a larger display iPhone while these tradeoffs exist," he concluded.
Judging from the comment, Apple will not change the screen size on the iPhone until its standard is met.
The company is expected to launch the iPhone 5S sometime this year which will most likely feature the same-sized display as the current generation model.
The new device is rumored to feature an A7 chip along with a new fingerprint sensor. A cheaper, low-cost iPhone is also rumored for release this year. That device is expected to come with a plastic exterior and will launch in various colors
