iPhone 6 vs Sony Xperia Z3 Review: Comparison of Features, Price and Specs

Two flagship phones go head to head as we pit Apple's iPhone 6 against Sony's strong challenger, the Xperia Z3. This is a classic battle as both brands have hardcore and very loyal fans, with each group singing praises of their favorite flagship phone.

Design:
The Xperia Z3 has a square shape with rounded sides and side mounted buttons. It has a glass and aluminium body with nylon corners, presumably added to protect the phone should it be dropped accidentally.

It's IP 68 rated, making it dust and water resistant, and is available in black, white, copper, or silver green.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 6 looks quite different from its predecessors as it now has curved edges and has significantly increased in size from the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 6 measures 5.44 x 2.64 x 0.27 inches and weighs 4.56 ounces, while the Xperia Z3 measures 5.75 x 2.83 x 0.29 inches and weighs 5.36 ounces.

Overall, the iPhone 6's build and design is more luxurious and looks better than the Z3, but the Xperia phone is more robust and can better withstand accidental drops, rain, and dust than the Apple iPhone.

Features:
The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch screen with a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels, which is trumped by the Z3's 5.2-inch display with resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels.

The Z3's camera is superior to the iPhone 6 in terms of raw megapixels, with Sony's flagship phone having a 20.7MP main camera and 2.2MP front-facing camera, versus the iPhone's 8MP main camera and 1.2MP front-facing camera. However, the iPhone 6's lens is excellent, and what it loses in MPs it more than makes up for in overall camera photo quality. When it comes to the iPhone 6, photos come out extremely clear, and the camera has had a significant boost from the iPhone 5S.

The iPhone 6 is powered by the Apple A8 processor and runs on the iOS 8, while the Xperia Z3 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad core processor and runs on the Android 4.4.4.

Like its predecessors, the iPhone 6 does not have a microSD slot but is available in the 16GB, 64GB and 128GB variants, while the Z3 has an internal memory of 16GB but can be expanded with a microSD card up to 128GB.

Prices of the Xperia Z3 are lower than the iPhone 6, with the unlocked versions costing around $600 while the iPhone 6 retails at more than $700 for the 16GB variant, generally increasing in increments of $100 for each higher memory version.

If price is a major factor then the Xperia Z3 may be the choice for you, however, if you want the absolute top design, a sophisticated feel and look, as well as the expanse of the Apple App Store, then it's a no-brainer to go with the iPhone 6.
