iPhone 6C or 7C Release Date Rumor: China Mobile Leaks Launch Date of Apple's Upcoming Phone

Apple appears to be all set to release a new smartphone in the early months of 2016, if leaked information courtesy of China Mobile is to be believed.

On Monday, Dec. 21, the Chinese cellular carrier held a presentation of its release schedule next year. One of the slides reportedly shows that the launch of an "iPhone 7c" will be in April 2016, an image of which can be seen in the Chinese site MyDrivers.

The Chinese company calls the new smartphone "iPhone 7c," but all previous rumors refer to the four-inch phone as "iPhone 6c." The latter name is more likely based on Apple's history of naming its products, according to Mac Rumors. iPhone 7 is the most probable name for Apple's 2016 flagship phone purported to come in September, so calling a device that releases ahead of it as "iPhone 7c" is "unlikely," the publication explains.

This latest update seems to strengthen previous release date rumors, especially those that say that the new gadget will come in the first months of the coming year. Speculations also go on to say that the iPhone will join the second-generation Apple Watch during an unveiling event in March.

Well-known KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kou said that the release of the iPhone 6c will help Apple penetrate emerging markets and, with a price between $400 and $500, it will also help rear in consumers on smaller budgets, reports Value Walk. Kou adds that the iPhone 6c will also help "mitigate slow seasonality for suppliers and a negative impact on share price."

The upcoming iPhone is rumored to have an aluminum casing and a 2.5D curved edge cover glass. It will also reportedly come in two to three color variants at the minimum. Inside the hood, the phone may be powered with an A9 processor. Other rumored features include an 8-megapixel camera at the back, a 1.2-megapixel camera in front, 802.11ac WiFi, and Bluetooth 4.1.
