iPhone Accessory: Wooden Dock Amplifies Sound Without Using Power
A new speaker dock, made from real wood, and requires no use of power, can now be bought for the iPhone.
The dock amplifies the tiny internal speaker in the iPhone, and it can be played without the use batteries or electricity.
“These speakers are passive in the sense that they require no power in order to work. Instead it relies on the acoustics of the wood and the design of the speaker to help amplify the sound coming out from it,” said Urbergizmo.com. “Of course you shouldn’t expect to old a rave or house party with these speakers, although that would be pretty cool, but for personal listening and just for decorative purposes, we don’t see why they couldn’t be come in handy.”
Available on Lowell’s Etsy shop for $60, the speaker dock measures 2-inches by 2-inches by 9-inches and is finished with orange oil and wax. The woods available are cherry, walnut, or soft maple.
The wood selection would be for buyers looking to benefit for décor or have a particular sound they are looking for from a specific type of wood. The dock is also sold on the website Koostik.com.
The company describes the speakers’ sound as, “A solid body guitar that's unplugged-you strum the strings and get a little bit of sound. But if those strings are placed over a hollow body guitar and you strum the strings-you suddenly have acoustic music. The same principal is at work with Koostik. Simply place your iPhone into the center cradle, and immediately you hear your music acoustically amplified!”
The tree dock differs from the iTree that is a made from an actual portion tree trunk and has actual electronics built inside of it, because of its smaller frame and lower price.
The wooden iPhone dock can come in handy for people looking to save on electricity or are looking to use speakers where no power outlets are available.
