iPhone Apps to Capture Panoramas of Breathtaking Churches

With smartphone cameras progressing in technology all the time, users are becoming increasingly able to capture beautiful shots of everything in their day-to-day lives, and for Christians it is no different. With the following smartphone apps, users can create expansive panoramas of breathtaking churches in order to share their experiences with friends and family.

360 Panorama costs $1.99 and lets users capture their surroundings in 360 degrees. To begin, the user simply taps a button and then pans the phone in any direction. The panorama stitches together in real time, and when it's finished, the user should tap the button again. The finalized photo can be viewed either as a panorama, or the iPhone’s gyroscope can be used for a more immersive experience.

The panorama can be shared through email, Facebook, or Twitter and made public by registering and uploading the image to 360verse.com. 360 Panorama is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G, or iPad 2.

YouSpin360 is $1.99 allows users to take 360-degree shots of a subject by moving around it, so that it can be viewed from all sides. To begin, the user hits “Start 360,” snap a shot, then moves a short distance and snaps another shot, etc, until the whole 360 degrees have been covered. When finished, the user can view the animation at different frame rates, upload a copy to Facebook, Twitter and other websites or email it. It can also be posted on 3Dme. YouSpin360 is available for iPhone and Android.

Photosynth is free and takes several photos and stitches them together for a three-dimensional, “full-sphere” experience. Finished images can be added to Bing Maps or Facebook. Users can also upload their photos to Photosynth.net and view the work of others. It's compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G. Requires iOS 4.0 or later. (Interestingly, although this app was developed by Microsoft, an Android version is still not available.)

Autostitch is $1.99 and automatically stitches together photos to create panoramas. Before running the app, users should already have in their photo library the photos to stitch together, and for best results, they should have a large overlap (around 30 percent). Keep in mind that it may take awhile to load a large number of photos, so a progress indicator shows when each photo is done uploading. When it’s finished it can be cropped and then saved it to the camera roll. This app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.
