iPhone Combusts On Flight Sending Passengers Into a Panic

Airplane passengers were thrown into a panic after someone’s iPhone 4 combusted shortly after the plane landed in Sydney last week.

The Apple iPhone 4 in question was a black version of the smartphone. The cell phone started “emitting a significant amount of dense smoke, accompanied by a red glow," according to a statement released by Express Airlines, an Australian regional carrier.

According to AP, once the iPhone combusted passengers were thrown into a panic, but a flight attendant on the Australian flight came to the rescue by extinguishing the smoking phone.

The cause of the combustion has still not been determined, and the iPhone 4 has been handed over to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau for further investigation.

This is not the first time that an Apple product has been caught up in such an incident. In 2009 a number of iPhones and iPads were reported to have caught fire and exploded during flights in the U.K., France and Holland.

An Apple Australia spokesperson has said: “We look forward to working with the officials investigating this incident.”
