iPhone Explodes Midflight in Australia (VIDEO)
An iPhone 4 has exploded midflight in Australia last week. The Apple iPhone 4 in question was a black version of the smartphone.
The cell phone started “emitting a significant amount of dense smoke, accompanied by a red glow," according to a statement released by Express Airlines, an Australian regional carrier.
According to AP, a flight attendant on the Australian flight came to the rescue by extinguishing the smoking phone to the relief of other passengers.
The cause of the combustion has still not been determined, and the iPhone 4 has been handed over to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau for further investigation.
Apple devices have been involved in similar incidents in the past; in 2009 a number of iPhones and iPads were reported to have caught fire and exploded during flights in the U.K., France and Holland.
An Apple Australia spokesperson has said: “We look forward to working with the officials investigating this incident.”
