iPhone Rumors: New Model Expected to Include 8GB Flashdrive

Apple is expected to release a new, lower priced version of the iPhone 4 which will include an 8GB flashdrive, sometime in the near future, according to Reuters.

A Korean manufacturing company recently claimed it was creating the flashdrive for the new Apple device, but would not reveal its name since the information has not yet been made public.

Japan’s Toshiba, and South Korea’s Samsung Electronics currently manufacture flashdrives for Apple, but both have refused to comment on the issue.

The new 8GB version is expected to launch within weeks, according to the sources.

Analysts claim this new version of the iPhone 4 could boost Apple’s sales in emerging markets.

“Apple may want to push into the emerging market segment where customers want to switch to low-to mid-end smartphones from high-end feature phones, which usually cost $150-200,” said Yuanta Securities analyst Bonnie Chang to Reuters.

“But I think for an 8 GB iPhone 4 the price is hard to go below $200, so Apple will still need a completely new phone with low specifications for the emerging markets,” she added.

This other phone could possibly be the long awaited iPhone 5, according to the report.

Reuters’ sources have reported that the next generation iPhone will have a similar look to the iPhone 4. The main upgrades include a bigger touch screen with a better antenna and an 8-megapixel camera.

Some are calling the device the iPhone 4S due to the similarities between it and the current iPhone.

About 45 million units of the next generation iPhone have been ordered to be prepared by manufacturers. Reuters also stated that the companies building the new devices are Hon Hai and Pegatron.

An Apple event is slated for early September that should give more insight into the new iPhones.
