iPhone Slow After iOS 11 Update, How to Fix Lag?

Some iPhone users have started complaining about how their handsets have been plagued with issues after updating to iOS 11.

Users claim that after downloading the software, their handset slowed down and started to lag and experience glitches. The battery life appears to have been messed up as well.

Apple currently does not provide a definite solution for that, but those who are experiencing such issues are advised to make sure they have the latest version of the software installed.

Those who just downloaded the iOS 11, however, should expect slowness as their iPhones or iPads are likely adapting to the software, which means it is re-indexing the apps for the new operating system.

This process might bog down the performance of the device, at least for the first few days. If it persists longer than that, users can try to check the storage space as it might be full. Apple allows players to free up some space by transferring their data to cloud storage.

Slowness after downloading an update is not new to the iPhone community. In fact, because of the frequency of these instances, it is rumored that Apple is intentionally slowing down last-generation devices to make users buy new ones.

However, according to benchmarking company Futuremark, who did more than 100,000 benchmarking tests, the older devices have indeed slowed down, but not by Apple.

For starters, the graphic processing performance of the iPhone 5S "has remained consistent from iOS 9 to iOS 11, with only minor variations that fall well within normal levels."

The same goes for the iPhone 6, 6S and 7. This led the company to conclude that "it is clear that iOS updates have not had a significant effect on performance." In fact, they said as quoted by Telegraph that Apple actually "does a good job of supporting its older devices."

Futuremark explained, per The Guardian:

The graphs for CPU performance show a very slight drop in performance over time — possibly due to minor iOS updates or other factors — but a user would be unlikely to notice this small difference in everyday use.
