iPod Touch 6G Release Date Rumors: Replaced by the iWatch?
The iPod Touch line is way overdue for an upgrade, but it is still uncertain whether Apple will want to push through with a 6th generation. Some have speculated that the upcoming iWatch will be replacing the iPod Touch line.
Apple has been very productive with their development on the iPhone and iPad in recent years lines but their iPod Touch line hasn't been getting that much attention. The last iPod Touch that the Cupertino giant released was the 5th generation Touch two years ago. By all standards, the 5th generation iPod Touch is outdated in terms of specs and hardware.
Of course, the device is still a fast performer in its own right but since Apple has not released a 6th generation over the last two years, sales have dropped down by as much as 36 percent. The company did experience a small 6 percent uptick of sales last quarter but this was made possible by the release of the 16GB model with a camera. This was not the 6th generation iPod Touch, though.
For most of the other Apple product lines, it is difficult to pinpoint causes of reduced revenue. With the iPod Touch line, however, it is easy to tell that the aging product line is the cause of the drastic sales decline. With the lack of a next-gen iPod Touch, most consumers have opted to buy either the iPhone or the iPads for their portable music needs.
There are no reports about Apple planning for a 6th generation release of the iPod Touch but they are planning an iOS 8 update for the 5th generation Touch.
