Iran Nuclear Weapons: Will 'Powerfully' Respond to Attacks, Says Supreme Leader

The Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has spoken out against the allegations that his country is building a nuclear bomb. However, Iran is ready to respond “powerfully” to any attack, said Khamenei.

According to the Iranian Farsi news agency, Iran’s most powerful leader told army students Thursday, “The enemies, especially the United States and the Zionist regime (of Israel) should know that Iran does not aggress any country, but will respond to any aggression and to even any threats powerfully.”

The leader added that anyone planning to act in aggression toward Iran should prepare itself for “strong slaps and iron fists” from the Iranian military.

The comments from the supreme leader come days after the Israeli defense minister said that the Israel would not rule out the potentiality of a strike against its Iranian adversary.

Khamenei’s comments also follow the release of a report by the United Nation’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which states the nuclear agency has credible evidence that Iran is building a nuclear bomb.

The IAEA report suggests that much of the nuclear work that has been done in Iran can only be used for the purpose of building a bomb. The report also details that Iran has made computer models of a nuclear warhead and has run high explosives tests.

The report said that the information indicates, “Iran has carried out activities relevant to the development of a nuclear bomb.” Adding, “The agency has serious concerns regarding possible military dimensions to Iran’s nuclear program.”

However, the IAEA report found no direct evidence that Iran has decided to build a bomb.

Iran has always maintained that its nuclear program is for energy purposes, and not to build a nuclear arsenal.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad responded to the IAEA report, saying that there is no logic behind the accusations. He argued that the IAEA is “discrediting” itself by siding with claims stemming from the U.S. that Iran is seeking to develop nuclear weapons.

Ahmadinejad addressed the issue to a crowd of people in his country yesterday, saying that Iranian people are wise and would not build two bombs to go against 20,000. Instead of building bombs Ahmadinejad said, “The Iranian nation will build something that you can’t respond to, and it is morality, ethics, believing in God and justice.”
