'Iron Fist' Series News: Finn Jones Brushes up on Fighting Skills, Bulks up for the Role

Although former "Game of Thrones" actor Finn Jones showcased some of his fighting skills on the widely followed HBO show, the skills he used on the show were not enough for his role in the upcoming Netflix series" Iron Fist." Determined to deliver what is expected of his mystical martial arts master Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, character, the actor now subjects himself to rigorous trainings that will not only improve his skills but his physique, too.

According to a report of Entertainment Weekly as cited by Comic Book, the actor spends hours of training for kung fu, wushu, and tai chi. In addition to brushing up his martial arts skills, the actor is also busy with extensive weight training to give his body more bulk. However, as Iron Fist himself gets his power from chi, Jones also trains himself mentally and studies Buddhist philosophy and meditation.

"I've always dreamed of a role that bridged spiritual discipline and badass superhero… there's a contradiction in those elements that's going to be very fun to play," he said.

Currently, the upcoming Netflix series is in pre-production stage and is expected for a 2017 release. Once available, it will complete the set of four Marvel TV Netflix series--- Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage as the three others---which eventually, will be gathered into one mini-series to be titled "The Defenders."

Iron Fist is a Marvel superhero who, at first, doesn't have any special powers. He travels to China, where his family members die, and finds himself in a different dimension. There, he learns to fight and comes out as a powerful fighter.

"After his family meets a tragic fate while on expedition in China, a young Rand is adopted by the people of the mystical lost city of K'un-Lun, where he's taught a magical fighting style. Years later, he returns to New York to fight crime," goes the synopsis for Netflix's "Iron Fist."
