'Iron Man 4' News: Film Delayed Due to Robert Downey Jr.'s Pay Demands?

The long-discussed "Iron Man" 4 movie may still see the big screen if Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. finally get to agree on the terms of a new contract.

With only 22 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's schedule, one title that hasn't seen the list is a fourth "Iron Man" movie starring Robert Downey Jr., who has played the masked Avenger since the first 2008 film in the MCU.

However, despite Marvel executives' intent to put a fourth "Iron Man" film in their schedule, no move has officially been made to do so, owing to its star holding back for a higher payday.

Downey, one of the highest paid actors in the industry today, has already made off with a $50 million mother lode for 2012's "The Avengers," which is only one of the films he has appeared in for Marvel Studios.

Having established himself as the linchpin around which the rest of the Marvel Avengers revolve around, it has become inconceivable to release an "Iron Man" film without the Iron Man himself.

With Downey recognized around the world as the face of Tony Stark, Marvel Studios now has their hands tied and unable to move forward with "Iron Man 4" using a new actor after Downey reportedly asked for higher than the $80 million he was paid for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" this year.

Downey has widely been considered instrumental in the blockbuster success of the MCU franchise, and filming an "Iron Man" movie without its eponymous titular character would be inconceivable for Marvel Avengers fans everywhere.

The actor will be appearing once more in "Captain America: Civil War" in 2016, and in the two "Infinity War" films in 2018 and 2019. However, despite rumors he will don his iron suit once more for a fourth solo movie, it has still not been confirmed whether Marvel will extend his contract for another "Iron Man."
