Is a 'Made for Bond' Xperia Phone in the Works?

A pair of leaked images via the Chinese website Digi-wo recently fuelled speculations that Sony Mobile may be planning another movie tie-in for one of their flagship phones. The images looked like ones that may likely be part of marketing materials for the upcoming James Bond film "Spectre."

The images were simple posters with the following text: "Made for Bond, Xperia *5" on top of the page, and "Spectre" and the 007 logo at the bottom part of the page. The letter before the number 5 was intentionally blurred as if to hide which among the flagship series it is indicating. The images seemed to be too simple so the report also warned that this is merely a rumor until officially confirmed by Sony.

If this report is true, it will not be the first time that Sony will do a product placement in a Bond movie. The movie after all is part of Sony Pictures, a sister company of the mobile communications company. In a previous Bond movie, "Skyfall," James Bond himself as portrayed by Daniel Craig, sported an Xperia T phone in a few scenes in the film.

Given that there are also reports that Sony Mobile may be releasing another flagship phone before the end of the year, this recent leak adds another dimension to these reports. Sony's most recent flagship phone, the Xperia Z4, has not been doing as well as the company hopes. The fact that this most recent flagship was not able to bring any significant design changes to the look of the Xperia Z series seems to be the main reason for its mediocre sales.

It is not yet known whether launching its newest flagship in conjunction with "Spectre" will improve handset sales. It will still depend on how good the design concept is as well as the phone's specifications. According to another report in GSM Arena, the new phone is rumored to sport the yet unreleased Snapdragon 820 processor with 4 GB of RAM, pack a 4,500mAh battery and a 21-megapixel rear-facing camera.
