Is a New Xbox One Arriving in Summer?

After PlayStation 4.5 rumors, it is the Xbox One's turn. Recent reports are now pointing to a possibility that Microsoft may announce a new version of the current generation console this summer. According to a Tech Times report, the rumors come courtesy of a NeoGAF user ekim, who cited that Microsoft has made two filings with the FCC, which the company has yet to announce. Any data-transmitting device must get approval from the FCC as with the case of the wireless chip of the Xbox One which has the code CK31525.

Another report in Digital Trends detailed that one of the FCC filings referred to a docket for a wireless radio with number 1683. This one includes a PDF user manual that carries the code 1525, which incidentally is the original model number of the Xbox One. This particular filing has a June 25 embargo date, which places it a few weeks before the E3 2016, where Microsoft is set to make some announcements in their press event. The second set of documents filed with the FCC have to do with a dual-band radio, with number 1682. The accompanying documents do not show any connection to the Xbox One and its embargo date is July 29.

This new set of reports points to the possibility that Microsoft may be planning to beef up its gaming console hardware. Earlier rumors are saying that a slim version of the Xbox One may be on its way. More recent reports talk about a more powerful Xbox One.

With other gaming console makers planning to come up with better consoles for their gamers, there is enough push for Microsoft to follow suit, or maybe even get ahead of the competition. With the E3 just a few months away, official announcements might be coming from the major console makers. Microsoft's E3 2016 conference is scheduled on June 13 at 9:30 a.m. Pacific Time.
