Rock Band for PS4, Xbox One News 2015: Is Harmonix Developing the Next 'Rock Band' Edition for New Consoles?
Rumors have surfaced that a new "Rock Band" sequel is currently in development for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Harmonix Music Systems is said to be developing the next edition of their "Rock Band" series for current generation consoles, Xbox One and PS4. The reports made gaming headlines after the leading game development studio released a survey last month quizzing fans for suggestions and preferences for current generation sequels.
The survey asked users about the "Rock Band" versions they've played, the volume of downloadable content they've purchased for their game, and which features of "Rock Band" they've used consistently, whether playing solo or with friends.

In January, Harmonix began prepping the way for what fans believed to be a possible sequel by revving up the long-inactive DLC music machine used by "Rock Band," followed by the announcement of the release of new tracks – a first in nearly two years – "Rize of the Fenix" from Tenacious D's 2012 album, and "Back to the Shack" from Weezer's "Everything Will Be Alright In The End" in 2014.
Both tracks, compatible with PS3 and Xbox 360, are currently available in "Rock Band's" music store. Fans have pointed out the similar theme both songs share. "Rise of the Fenix" speaks of revival, and "Back to the Shack" features Rivers Cuomo waxing eloquent about returning to one's roots and nostalgia, themes which hinted at the re-emergence of the rock and roll video game since its last released "Rock Band 3" in 2010.
"We're excited by how enthusiastic our fans have been in regards to our most recent DLC releases, and we think it's awesome that people are speculating about the future of the franchise!" the developer said in a statement.
"While we don't have anything to announce, hundreds of thousands of unique users are still actively playing Rock Band games each month … and we've always been clear that we'd love to return to the franchise when the time is right."
