Is There a Real Face Lift in a Bottle?

Researchers find best anti-aging creams on market

Wrinkles are a telltale sign of aging and women are paying thousands of dollars on the quest to find that magic facelift in a bottle.

Some women will spend upwards of $15,000 on average every year to erase wrinkles, crow’s feet, and age spots.

Every company promises to use "advanced ingredients" in their products that will erase the signs of aging. The gimmicks and cons seem endless and consumers do not know what product will work the best unless they spend the money and try it.

This is bringing in some $1.1 million every week to the beauty industry, according to a new report conducted by the Transform group.

Despite the astronomical numbers, researchers found that 45 percent admit they are unhappy with the results of their anti-aging routines.

Only seven percent said they were prepared to grow old gracefully and embrace the aging process without some form of treatment.

Toners and exfoliators can complement cleansing to remove additional impurities as well as dead skin cells which can build up to cloud a complexion. This is simple and necessary, but most women want fast results.

“Even well-known companies sell anti-aging creams that do not work. So buyers must beware and be educated,” said Dr. Anthony Chanson, a dermatologist in Mobile, Ala.

“There are good reviews for the right skin products out there and they deliver younger looking skin as promised. But we must all remember that stress contributes to bad skin and so does too much sunlight. A cleansing and moisturizing routine is a must for everyone.”

To add to the bad news, skin researchers at the Yale School of Medicine discovered that wrinkles may predict the risks associated with bone fractures in women.

"We found that deepening and worsening skin wrinkles are related to lower bone density among the study participants," said Lubna Pal, associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at Yale School of Medicine.

"The worse the wrinkles, the lesser the bone density, and this relationship was independent of age or of factors known to influence bone mass."

In contrast to the skin wrinkles, higher scores – indicating higher skin rigidity – related to better bone density.

Wendy Harmer, an author and broadcaster, said it would be a good exercise to put away the mirror and instead judge ourselves by the gestures of those we meet.

"Sometimes I'm shocked by the wrinkles and jowls of the woman in the mirror when I feel only 25 in my head. Other times I'm elated to see a relatively smooth and youthful face when I feel I'm pushing 100," Harmer wrote in a recent news publication.

"I'll admit that the image of myself I like best is the one I see in the vanity mirror behind the sun visor in the car. I look up in bright, forgiving sunlight – crow's feet and crepey neck. It seems to me that when we opt for surgery to look younger we are saying some pretty profound stuff. We are saying to our family: 'Your love for me as I am is not enough to sustain me.'"

There is some good news on the horizon for those looking for a simple anti-wrinkle cream regiment thanks to a study conducted by Top Consumer Reviews.

Researchers recently released their findings by ranking the best anti-aging creams available on the market today.

Here are the results for the top ranking anti-wrinkle creams on the market in 2011:

REVITOL
(The Revitol anti-aging solution is a 3-part system consisting of an anti-wrinkle cream, serum, and moisturizer. Revitol has a great tradition of offering high quality skin care products and this is no exception.)

STRIVECTIN SD
(StriVectin SD is a cream lotion originally created to reduced stretch marks, but has found a cult following when used as a facial wrinkle reducer. Although one of the higher priced treatments in our review at $135, it also is one of the most effective treatments you will find.)

AVOTONE
(Avotone's anti-aging cream eliminates up to 27 percent of fine lines and wrinkles. The product's effectiveness is guaranteed, and most customers can tell a difference in the amount of wrinkles in as little as 14 days.)

DARPHIN PREDERMINE
(Darphin is a company based in France that sells a variety of skin, body and hair products in up-scale department stores and boutiques. The Predermine wrinkle cream sells for $150.00 for 1.7oz and should be used twice a day.)

HYDRA LIFT
(The Hydra Lift Firming Serum (28 single dose applicators) and Soft as Silk Firming Gel (.38oz) are sold as a set for $29.95. A lack of positive results, a disorganized website, and other questions drop this product in our rankings. )
