Is 'Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 3' Happening? Domain Name Registration Hints at Possibility

Sega of America has registered the domain name www.dawnofwar3.com and has recently updated it, pointing to the possibility that a sequel for "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2" may be in the works.

The report noted that although the domain name was registered as early as 2011, its last update was very recent, just this July 6. A closer look at the registration details pointed to Sega of America as the one who registered the domain. Other details also hinted that the game's developer Relic Entertainment is involved, as the admin, the registrant and the tech support email that is indicated point to the IT Department of Relic.

According to another report in PCGamer, Relic Entertainment had earlier revealed that a sequel to "Dawn of War 2" was a "strong possibility."

"Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War" is a series of real-time strategy tactical role-playing video games based on the fictional "Warhammer 40,000" universe, which was a miniature tabletop wargame popular since the late 1980s. It is composed of a series of video games, which started with "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War," then followed by "Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2," which was released for PC in February 2009.

Interest is apparently high for the game's next installment. The "Dawn of War 2" is set in a fantasy background with different playable armies such as Space Marines, Orks, Eldar, Tyranids, Chaos Space Marines and Imperial Guards. Gameplay places emphasis on defensive strategies such as seeking cover, effectively handling units in cover as well as base-building. Gameplay is also non-linear and involves inter-planetary travel. When the game first came out in 2009, it was praised of its "intensive action and fantasy galactic environment."

Although Relic and Sega have yet to confirm these reports, excitement is brewing over the possibility of a new iteration of the game.
