Isabel Celis: Authorities Identify Person of Interest, Investigating 28 Leads
Police are still searching for Isabel Celis, 6, and have stated that they have positively identified a person of interest in a surveillance video, which they hope will provide a new lead in the case. The video was taken in the parking lot of a nightclub close to Celis' home.
"Preliminarily, we have at least one individual self-identified," Lt. Fabian Pacheco of the Tucson Police told azFamily.com. "We are sending out detectives to interview him and hopefully identify the other four people he was with."
"This isn't 'CSI: Tucson,' where we going to solve this in one hour," he cautioned. "This is going to take us awhile." According to authorities, they are investigating 28 different leads in the case of the 6-year-old who was abducted from her bedroom last week.
"We understand that some folks might feel frustration," Pacheo said. "Eight days. Believe me, we feel it as well." Police and the FBI have been working together in order to locate Isabel; her family has been removed from the home in order to preserve any precious evidence.
Mexican officials have been notified of Isabel's disappearance and are cooperating in order to help search for the girl.
"The idea of having Mexico involved, I think, is a logical idea and a good idea at this point. The idea that somebody crossed and picked up Isabel and then went back into Mexico is actually realistic," former FBI agent Brad Garrett told CBS.
Isbael was last seen on April 20, when she went to bed. Her parents discovered her missing the next morning, and authorities discovered her window was wide open with the protective screen removed.
"We will do anything for her," Isabel's father Sergio told reporters in a public appearance. "We will never give up."
