ISIS News Today 2017: Iraqi Forces Regain ISIS-controlled Towns In Iraq
The US-backed Iraqi forces launched an offensive attack against the ISIS to remove the international terrorist group from its fort at an area in the oil city of Kirkuk Thursday.
According to reports, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced the offensive move in the area of Hawija after he attended a referendum regarding a Kurdish independence that will be conducted in northern Iraq.
Other reports revealed that the offensive operation is being conducted by a joint group that includes the Federal Police, the Rapid Response group, as well as the pro-government organization known as the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
Based on the report from the PMF media, the troops were able to regain the control of the four villages that used to be occupied by the ISIS. These include the eastern side of Shirqat town. Shaker Jawdat from Federal Police also confirmed that three other villages were also snatched from the international terror group.
A report from Gulf Times cited a report from Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve spokesperson Colonel Ryan Dillon, who claimed that the fight against the ISIS will soon be over.
"We will retake every last bit of Iraqi territory from the enemy," the spokesperson stated. He also revealed that the coalition will continue providing their support for all operatives that will be done to end the control of the ISIS in the Middle Eastern country. "The coalition continues its support to Iraqi forces during these current and upcoming operations, which include retraining, providing equipment, intelligence, and precision fires in combat," he also said.
Dillon also reported that the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was already successful in driving out the terrorist group away from the eastern and northeastern parts of Syria. He also mentioned that the SDF continues to hold its defensive positions in the larger ISIS headquarters.
