ISIS News: Video from NBC Reveals Anti-ISIS Raid; American Commando Killed
In what is considered as the first mission under Barack Obama's new agenda to train locals in the battle against the Islamic State, U.S. and Kurdish militia raided a suspected terror cell where it was believed to hold hostages who were about to be killed.
As first reported by NBC News, the joint rescue mission was featured in a video outlet obtained from Arab24. The video featured soldiers who seem to be well-versed in utilizing weapons and other tactics especially correlated with the military.
Unfortunately, Master Sgt. Joshua Wheeler, a native of Oklahoma and commando of the Delta Force, was killed in the middle of the battle. According to multiple outlets, it is the first reported American death in an anti-ISIS operation.
Defense Secretary Ash Carter said on Friday, "I am immensely proud of this young man," referring to Wheeler's heroic act when he reportedly advanced in the middle of gunfire where he was later shot and killed.
The mission saw dozens of barefoot hostages in red-stained gowns come out of the building suspected to be a prison where the Islamic State forces keep their hostages. In the video, the hostages stumbled around as soldiers ordered them to "keep moving" and advance to safety amid the gunfire.
Much of the footage showed what is known in the military as "room-cleaning," wherein soldiers move in speed that will allow them to shoot accurately, in case an enemy is in the room being cleared.
Part of the video unveiled a room where an ISIS flag is pinned to the wall and furniture. The footage also showed parts of the building, including a hallway where steel doors were padlocked and glasses seemed to be intact.
Although Wheeler's death was not showed in the video, the highly decorated commando is seen by not only his men on the mission but also by Americans all around the world as a hero for his brave act that saved the lives of many hostages.
