'IT' Movie News, Update: Filming for Second Installment Kicks Off This Month in Toronto
The follow-up to the first "IT" film is in the works. In fact, recent reports suggest that the upcoming installment is set to film this month in Toronto.
Early this week, My Entertainment World updated the production listing for the "IT" sequel, which is currently under the working title "Accordion." The listing reveals that filming for the new film will start on March 17 in Toronto, Canada.
If the report is true, then it means that production for the sequel will come six months prior to the release of the first "IT" film, which is set to hit theaters in September. "IT" producer Dan Lin recently confirmed that "IT" would be a two-part film and that the sequel will be released in 2019, two years after the first film is released this year.
Lin also revealed that the two films will be R-rated and that they had conducted a test screening for the film a few months ago. "Allegiant" star Bill Skarsgard will reportedly play the role of the iconic Pennywise the Clown, while "Stranger Things" star Finn Wolfhard will portray Richie Tozier.
The rework of the horror-thriller novel by Stephen King is said to be an adaptation of the two-part mini TV series that was released in 1990. In the mini-series, multi-awarded actor Tim Curry played Pennywise the Clown.
The "IT" film will center on the return of Pennywise the Clown as he terrorizes the poor kids of Derry. The official synopsis for the upcoming film reads: "A promise made 28 years ago calls seven adults to reunite in Derry, Massachusetts, where as teenagers they bottled an evil creature that preyed on the city's children. Unsure that their Losers Club had vanquished the creature all those years ago, the seven had vowed to return to Derry if IT should ever reappear."
The first "IT" film hits theaters on Sept. 8 in the U.S. The follow-up to the first film has no release date yet, but it is expected to premiere in 2019.
