'It' Movie Plot News, Deleted Scenes: Bill Skarsgard Reveals Final Cut Skipped Over a 'Really Disturbing' Flashback
Bill Skarsgard recently revealed that there were scenes that the movie producers deemed needed to be deleted in the final cut for being "really disturbing."
Skarsgard portrayed the scary Pennywise in the 2017 film adaptation of Stephen King's novel "It."
According to the actor in an interview with Variety, the movie could have been more terrifying than how it already is. However, the producers had to remove some scenes that "turned out really, really disturbing."
Skarsgard was referring to a flashback scene that dated back to the 1600s and showed Pennywise before he became the creepy smiling clown lurking underground.
"The scene turned out really, really disturbing. And I'm not the clown. I look more like myself. It's very disturbing, and sort of a backstory for what It is, or where Pennywise came from. ... The idea is the 'It' entity was dormant for thousands and thousands of years," Skarsgard further explained.
It is also important to note that the movie officially carries the onscreen title "It: Chapter One" – which obviously tells fans that the scares will extend to at least a second movie.
With that in mind, Skarsgard, who was apparently a fan of the deleted scene, suggested that the disturbing sight of Pennywise's original identity "might be something worth exploring in the second one." Other than that, he was careful not to spoil anything and reveal too many details with a sequel in mind.
However, the actor also had some personal suggestions on what they could further explore for the second chapter of the movie, such as delving deeper into the identity of Pennywise. He said the book was "abstract and metaphysical about what it means to exist."
"I think that could be cool to explore as well. It's like, what is Pennywise? He only exists in the imagination of children. If you don't believe him to be real then he might not be real," Skarsgard added.
