iTunes Creator Jeff Robbin Heading Apple's HDTV Project

Recent reports have surfaced revealing the rumored Apple HDTV project to be currently handled by Jeff Robbin, the creator of iTunes.

Bloomberg revealed the details on the rumored project on their website: "Apple Inc. is turning to the software engineer who built iTunes to help lead its development of a television set, according to three people with knowledge of the project. Jeff Robbin, who helped create the iPod in addition to the iTunes media store, is now guiding Apple’s internal development of the new TV effort, said the people, who declined to be identified because his role isn’t public."

Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray, an investment bank and institutional securities firm, also released news of Apple's HDTV project Oct. 24.

Munster claimed Apple currently has prototypes for the HD television in its possession. He also said Apple is "investing in manufacturing facilities and securing supply for LCD displays."

Munster backed his suspicions with various quotes from Steve Jobs' biography. Munster also used an excerpt from the book to champion his thesis on the matter, which he has proclaimed since 2009.

"I'd like to create an integrated television set," Jobs told Walter Isaacson, Steve Jobs’ biographer. "It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud... It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it."

Apple HDTV may offer Siri and iCloud users more integration features. Users may be able to use Siri to vocally command their television, while the iCloud features would allow users store multimedia content on the company’s servers.

Apple's current technology efforts have dealt with its Apple TV device, which retails for $99. The device plugs into a television and gives users access to varied content from iTunes, Netflix and YouTube.
