iTunes Gift Certificate Virus Stealing Credit Card Info From Email Users
Black Friday has already seen hoards of shoppers across the country lose their heads over mega deals, however, hundreds of consumers eager to snap up every deal they can are now being hit by a fake iTunes gift voucher being sent across the Internet via email.
It has been reported that the fake vouchers have malware attached to them that looks to steal credit card information, and ultimately money from the victim’s account.
The fake iTunes gift voucher is sent by a “Black Friday" email, telling readers about a special $50 iTunes Store voucher. The email contains a phony gift certificate code in a malicious attachment and asks the user to download it.
PCWorld has said: “The Sophos Naked Security blog reports that there are fake iTunes gift certificates being distributed via email which are actually malware-laden file attachments. The prospect of a free $50 to spend shopping on iTunes is a compelling deal for rabid Black Friday shoppers.”
If the attachment is downloaded it will infect a Windows PC with malware. Internet users are being urged to not download any suspicious attachments, and if receiving an email similar to the one described above, should immediately delete it.
