Jack Black's Tenacious D Video Kills Off Val Kilmer 'Batman': Too Graphic? (VIDEO)
Jack Black's band, Tenacious D, has announced that it will go on tour following the release of its new album, which is due out May 15. The band has also released a new music video in light of the tour that has received rave reviews despite its controversial material.
Tenacious D is a band that first began in 1994 with Jack Black and lead guitarist and vocalist Kyle Gass. After a 6-year hiatus, the band has retuned with plans to go on tour and release an album, "Rize of the Fenix," which is set to come out May 15.
The bands first attempt at a come back has come through a YouTube video titled "To Be the Best" which includes appearances by Jimmy Kimmel, Tim Robbins, Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl, "Extra" host Maria Menounos and Val Kilmer.
While the six minute video seems to have garnered plenty of positive reviews- it has 12,433 like on You Tube verses 144 dislikes- it depicts relatively graphic scenes. After only a minute into the video, Gass is seen carving Jack Black's name into his stomach, while blood oozes out.Gass, who has been ruled as "insane," later appears at Black's house where he attempts to shoot him. Kilmer jumps in front of the bullet and his white shirt becomes bloodied as he dies.
In the next scene Gass then attempts to kill himself before he his stopped by Black. When Gass apologizes for trying to kill Black and for killing Kilmer, Black states, "whatever, that's not important."
While the video was meant as an attempt at comedy, it appears to achieve this through violence and other explicit images. However, despite its seemingly inappropriate content, fans seemed unfazed as they cheered the video on.
"They made the greatest album ever recorded. By anyone. Ever. That's not opinion. That's fact," many YouTube users commented, using a direct quote from the video.
"I actually started crying because of how epic this is!" DopePhizh wrote on YouTube.
"What she said right at the start they are legend king gods. Tenacious D the best band period," MegaBlizzie wrote.
