Jaden and Willow Smith Give Bizarre Interview, Talks About Their Art and Not Going to School

The New York Times T Magazine recently had a joint interview with Jaden and Willow Smith. This is the first time that the children of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smithwere interviewed together, and the responses of the 14-year old Willow and 16-year old Jaden have been interpreted in various different ways. While some media outlets praised their self-awareness and uniqueness, others thought that the Smith's answers were odd, even bordering on the bizarre.

When asked what they have been reading, Willow responded, "Quantum physics. Osho." Jaden said, "The Ancient Secret of the Flower Life and other ancient texts; things that can't be predated."

The siblings also revealed that they prefer their own work than those by other artists or writers.

"We don't think a lot of the music out there is cool. So we make our own music. We don't have any song that we listen to on the P.C.H. by any other artist, you know?" Jaden said.

"That's what I do with novels," said Willow. "There's no novels that I like to read so I write my own novels, and then I read them again, and it's the best thing."

They also talked about not going to school.

"Here's the deal. School is not authentic because it ends," said Jaden. "It's not true, it's not real. Our learning will never end. The school that we go to every single morning, we will continue to go to ... Kids who go to normal school are so teenagery, so angsty."

"They never want to do anything, they're so tired," added Willow.

"You never learn anything in school," insists Jaden. "Think about how many car accidents happen every day. Driver's ed? What's up? I still haven't been to driver's ed because if everybody I know has been in an accident, I can't see how driver's ed is really helping them out."

Since it was published, reactions to the interview on social media were varied. One Twitter user wrote, "Slightly terrified of Will Smith's kids, who appear to be kinds of higher beings." Another expressed bewilderment and wrote, "I don't even know what I just read."

Both Jaden and Willow are reportedly releasing new albums this month. Willow's 3 is available on iTunes and Jaden's Cool Tapes 2 will be available with the download of his new app, The Jaden Experience.
