James Dobson, Franklin Graham Praise Roy Moore Ahead of Alabama's Senate Runoff
Carson's endorsement comes as his boss, President Donald Trump, has announced his support and has campaigned for Moore's opponent, Strange, who was appointed as Sessions' temporary replacement in the Senate in February by Gov. Robert Bentley.
However, Carson's confidant, Armstrong Williams, has said that people should not view Carson's statement as an endorsement but simply as words of praise for a long-time friend, according to The Hill.
Although Trump is supporting Strange, the president told a rally in Huntsville that both Moore and Strange are "good men."
"If his opponent wins, I'm going to be here campaigning like hell for him. But I have to say this ... Luther will definitely win," Trump said.
Celebrities, such as actor Chuck Norris and "Duck Dynasty" patriarch Phil Robertson, have also announced their endorsements of Moore, who has an eight-percentage-point lead over Strange in the Real Clear Politics average of polls.
"I have been an admirer for some time of Judge Roy Moore. He judged with a good understanding of the Constitution and the law, but he also understands natural law and who gave us our rights to begin with, Almighty God," Robertson said in a statement. "Roy Moore will stand up for truth and what's right, no matter who opposes him, and that is sorely needed in Washington DC. I fully endorse his run for the senate and pray for he and his family."
