In a separate photograph the 21-year-old, who shares a four-year-old Maddie with another man, shared a close-up of her diamond ring. The hashtag read "he did good."

This is Spears' second engagement, the singer was previously engaged to Maddie's father Casey Aldridge although they split nine months after her birth in 2010.

In 2007 Spears sparked controversy when it was revealed that she was pregnant with her first child at age 16. Subsequently she took time out of the limelight to focus on motherhood.

The engagement news comes two months after her older sister Britney Spears called off her one-year engagement to Jason Trawick, following claims that he was not prepared to have children with the mother of two.

"As two mature adults, they came to the difficult decision to go their separate ways while continuing to remain friends," a statement read.

Trawick, who has since resigned as Spears' co-conservator, revealed that he will maintain a relationship with both the singer and her children. Spears has two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, with her former husband Kevin Federline.

"I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever," Trawick said in his own statement obtained by CNN.
