Jane Fonda 'Not Afraid' of Dying: 'I'm Really Lucky,' Actress Tells Oprah
Jane Fonda is "not afraid" of death or dying, the star told Oprah Winfrey in a new interview for "Oprah's Next Chapter." In fact, she is currently in remission and enjoying living her life.
When she was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, Fonda was not discouraged and had a successful procedure to remove the tumor from her chest. Now the 75-year-old is happily living her life and just enjoying the time that she has left with her family and friends.
"It was a good test, because I always said I'm not afraid of dying," Fonda said of the 2010 diagnosis. "And I wasn't. I mean, I felt, God, I've just joined a family of millions of women who have gone through this. And how interesting. What a journey this is going to be."

Fonda continued to work and starred on HBO's hit series "Newsroom" and two upcoming films: "The Butler," in which she plays Nancy Reagan, and "This Is Where I Leave You," based on the book by Jonathan Tropper. Ironically, "This Is Where I Leave You" deals with a Jewish family forced to sit shiva together for one week after the patriarch dies.
Dying is definitely not on Fonda's mind, though, as she continues to work and speak about her experience with breast cancer.
"I thought, you now, maybe I'll make it and maybe I won't. I didn't get scared. I hope I don't die, but I'm not scared of dying," Fonda told Winfrey.
"When doctors say, 'You've got cancer,' there's that moment of scary," Fonda previously told Ellen DeGeneres in 2010. "And then I felt like I've just become a part of a huge family of women – survivors of breast cancer. I'm really lucky," she added.
"She's 100 percent cancer-free," her representative said after the procedure. "She's completely fine and it's business as usual for her."
Fonda's interview with Winfrey airs Sunday, April 14, at 9:00 p.m. on OWN.
