'Jane the Virgin' Season 4 Spoilers: Show Replaces Actor, Revealed in New Poster
"Jane the Virgin" is replacing an actor in season 4. The new cast member's face is already in the latest promo posters that The CW recently released.
Star Gina Rodriguez (Jane) is seen in the new promo photos with a different boy. Her TV son Mateo, will now be played by child actor Elias Janssen.
There's no controversial reason to the replacement, though, despite fans' speculations. The show won't also take a big time jump which would cause a recast.
Reportedly, the original child actor, Joseph Sanders, is going to be busy in school for the first time this fall, thus producers needed to look at casting a new boy. Sanders, however, will still continue acting in commercials.
Meanwhile, more major changes for "Jane the Virgin" season 4 will be underway as the dynamics between Rogelio (Jaime Camil) and Xo (Andrea Navedo) changes. Now that they are married and he has a new baby with Darci (Justina Machado), Rogelio will try to balance co-parenting with Darci while Xo will also want to be involved with the baby.
"The Darci-Rogelio situation has a lot of twists and turns," creator and showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman said. "It's a beautiful set piece that I don't want to spoil, but it's a different kind of birth than we've seen."
The CW also reduced the episode order for season 4 with 17 episodes from the usual 22 episodes at the request of Urman herself. The executive producer is also reportedly busy developing and writing the "Charmed" reboot and juggling two shows could be creatively challenging.
"Jane the Virgin" is in the middle of production for season 4. The show will return on The CW in a new timeslot beginning Friday, Oct. 13 at 8:00 p.m. EST.
"Jane the Virgin" also stars Yael Grobglas (Petra/Anezka), Justin Baldoni (Rafael), Ivonne Coll (Alba) and Yara Martinez (Luisa) with Anthony Mendez as the narrator.
