Jani Lane Dead at 47; Fans Mourn Ex-Warrant Singer Via Twitter

Jani Lane, former lead singer of the 80’s rock band Warrant, was found dead Thursday evening in his Los Angeles hotel room.

The 47-year-old rocker was found in a Comfort Inn hotel in Woodland Hills, Calif. Los Angeles Police Officer Sara Faden said there was no information right now regarding the cause or circumstances of his death, reported the Associated Press.

Faden said Lane’s case was handed over to the Los Angeles county coroner’s office.

Lane epitomized the hard rock subgenre “glam metal” – with his long blonde hair and tight leather outfits. He joined Warrant in 1984 and several of his hits include, “Cherry Pie,” “Heaven,” and “Down Boys.”

Jani Lane fans across the country and several in Hollywood took to Twitter to express their grief.

“Just heard about Jani Lane. What a shame. RIP man,” @Slash, former lead guitarist of Guns N’ Roses, wrote.

@MichaelStarrr, Steel Panther glam band, tweeted, “It truly saddens me to lose Jani Lane. You were my inspiration for what I love to do: ROCK!”

“RIP Jani Lane…You will be survived by the music you gave us! Rock dem Angels!” @LZZYHALE said.

@mattnathanson sent a tweet, “oh man, no…jani lane is dead. at 47. that absolutely breaks my heart.”

Another Lane fan, @NicWilko tweeted, “Jani Lane of Warrant was found dead yesterday :( Have a piece of Cherry Pie in his memory.”

The singer has had a history of alcohol-related arrests. In June 2009, he was arrested for reportedly being under the influence when he crashed into a parked car. Lane was charged with a misdemeanor and held on $30,000 bail. He pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor DUI and was placed on probation for three years.

He has appeared in the second season of the reality TV show, “Celebrity Fit Club” and is survived by his two daughters from two separate marriages.
