January Jones: Sweet or Sour?
January Jones had been dubbed an ice-queen; much like her character on the AMC hit series “Mad Men.”
The reigning Emmy Award dramatic series features Jones as Betty Draper Francis; a complicated and sometimes cold character.
Jared Gilmore, who formerly played Betty’s (Jones) son on the “Mad Men,” told TV Guide, “Be careful around January. She’s not as approachable as the others. She’s really serious about what she does.”
The 11-year old actor, formerly known as Bobby Draper on the show, continued, “Everyone else is so nice.”
In defense of January Jones, another “Mad Men” co-star spoke up. John Slattery, who plays Roger Sterling on the series, explained to E! News on Monday, “She’s a sweetheart,” of Jones.
During the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Performers Peer Group 2011 Emmys cocktail reception, Slattery speculated that the young “Mad Men” star Gilmore probably associated the actress with his onscreen mother Betty.
“Well it’s an intimidating character,” said Slattery. “I mean, that’s the character. Betty Draper is an intimidating woman I suppose, if you were a 7-year-old boy [or] her son.”
When questioned about whether or not Jones was difficult on set, he answered no, and added that no one on the cast acted like a “diva.”
“We got lucky,” said the 49-year-old actor, “We don’t have anybody like that.”
Gilmore is not the only person commenting on Jones’ personality. Three months ago, Zach Galifianakis claimed that Jones was rude to him. “The Hangover” actor recalls meeting her at a party when Jones asked him to sit down at her table.
During an interview with TheShortList, Galifianakis responded to news that Jones named him as one of the most “naturally funny” men she’s ever met.
“That’s really funny because, if I remember correctly, she and I were very rude to each other,” he replied in shock. “It was crazy. I was at a party – I’d never met her – and she was like, ‘Come sit down.’ So I sit at her table and talk for 10 minutes, and she goes, ‘I think it’s time for you to leave now.”
Angered, Galifianakis retaliated to Jones’ rude comment, and told her, “You are an actress in a show and everybody’s going to forget about you in a few years.”
Reportedly including profanity, the actor-comedian told the “Mad Men” star to “be nice.”
“And she thinks that’s funny,” said Galifianakis of the incident.
Jones is expecting her first child in November, and has yet to release who the father is.
The highly anticipated fifth season of “Mad Men” will premiere on AMC next year.
