Jay Cutler to Remain the Miami Dolphins' Starting Quarterback Despite Recent Struggles
Well, it appears that the honeymoon period between Jay Cutler and Miami Dolphins fans is officially over.
The team's offense has struggled since the start of the season, but things have gone from bad to worse during their game against the New Orleans Saints at the Wembley Stadium in London, England last Sunday. The Dolphins offense was almost nonexistent in the 20–0 shutout loss, and fans have already started calling for the team to bench Cutler in favor of Matt Moore.
However, Dolphins head coach Adam Gase has refused to make a knee-jerk reaction based on a few games and he noted that Cutler would remain the starter at quarterback.
"It's not time to panic. We've been through way worse than this. So we want to figure out what's going on and then fix the problem. That's really the only thing we're concerned about," Gase told reporters after the game, via ESPN.
"That drives me nuts. I heard when I got here Ryan couldn't play. That was wrong. The evaluation skills that everybody (has) about quarterbacks is really bad. So I'm not going to listen to anybody outside myself," Gase said on Monday, via the Palm Beach Post.
Well, the Dolphins should probably consider themselves lucky they were able to convince a veteran like Cutler to join them after they lost starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill to a season-ending left knee injury. But it seemed that they have just found out what the Chicago Bears already knew. Cutler's just not good enough to push teams to victory.
Still, he's a solid quarterback and he's better than Moore. He just has to play with a little more effort. Right now, Cutler's getting criticized for not moving an inch from pre-snap to whistle when the Dolphins ran a wildcat play. He simply stood there with his hands on his hips.
