Jay Z Disses Drake as 'Mrs. Drizzy' in 'We Made It': 'Watch Your Tone,' Says Rapper (LISTEN)
Jay Z dissed Drake on Jay Electronica's latest track "We Made It," attacking the younger emcee for calling his art references "corny" in a previous interview. The Roc Nation label head and signed artist collaborated over track originally belonging to Soulja Boy to create a song with Five Percenter themes and long, introspective lyrics.
Jay Z's Drake diss came near the beginning of his verse where he slammed Drake as "Mrs. Drizzy," purposefully disrespecting him by not mentioning his name.
"Sorry Mrs. Drizzy for so much art talk, silly me rappin' 'bout s--- that I really bought / While these rappers rap about guns they ain't shot, and a bunch of other silly s--- that they ain't got," Jigga rhymed.
Jay may have also taken a subliminal shot at the "Started From the Bottom" rapper later on in the verse, rapping: "N---- watch your tone / I come to court with black boxers on / Y'all hella jealous of my melatonin, I could black out at any given moment."
The feud began in February, when the Young Money rapper spoke about Jay Z in a Rolling Stone interview. Drake said that the older rapper's near-constant references to art in his Magna Carta Holy Grail album was "corny."
"It's like Hov can't drop bars these days without at least four art references!" Drake said. "I would love to collect at some point, but I think the whole rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny."
The interviewer didn't overtly point out Drake's hypocrisy, but it was anything but subtle— soon after dissing Jay, the "No New Friends" emcee was dropping art references.
"He's been wanting to check out the James Turrell retrospective at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art while he's in town, and his people have booked him a guided visit," the interviewer wrote. "'I f--- with Turrell,' Drake says. 'He was a big influence on the visuals for my last tour.'"
Drake also dissed Kanye West during the same interview, saying there were "some real questionable bars" on his last and most divisive album, Yeezus.
"Like that 'Swaghili' line? Come on, man. Even Fabolous wouldn't say some s--- like that," the rapper said, in the same breath admitting that "Kanye's the reason I'm here. I love everything about that guy."
Drake has also admitted to idolizing the "Holy Grail" rapper Jay Z in the past. The two collaborated on several tracks together including "Pound Cake" and "Off That."
