Jeff Conaway's Cause of Death Pending Further Toxicology Tests
The Los Angeles County Coroner's office completed an autopsy on "Grease" actor Jeff Conaway Saturday, but is waiting until further tests come in before announcing a cause of death.
The Coroner's office is awaiting toxicology test results, which could take four to six weeks, TMZ reported.
Jeff Conaway died Friday morning, a day after being taken off life support. Conaway, famous for his roles in "Taxi" and "Grease," was 60.
The cause of the actor's death is still unknown.
Conaway was found unconscious in his home on May 11 and was in a medically induced coma in an Encino, Calif., hospital. His manager told reporters at the time that he likely overdosed on prescription pills.
Dr. Drew Pinsky, who treated Conaway for substance abuse on the reality show "Celebrity Rehab," disputed that claim. Following a May 21 visit to Conaway at the hospital, Pinsky reported via Twitter that the actor suffered from "pneumonia with sepsis."
On the day Conaway was taken off life support, Pinsky said he was saddened to report that Conaway "succumbed to his addiction." He added that there was "no evidence of an intentional overdose."
Funeral services for Conaway have yet to be announced.
