Jeffrey Dahmer Survivor Sentenced for Death of Homeless Man
The man who led police to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer nearly two decades ago, has been arrested and sentenced for his involvement in the death and drowning of a homeless man.
Tracy Edwards was charged with assisting another man, Timothy Carr, in throwing a homeless man named Johnny Jordan, into a river from a downtown Milwaukee bridge. The three men were reported to be in the middle of an argument when Edwards and Carr threw the third man over the bridge. All three men were homeless at the time.
Edward's attorney, Paul Ksicinski, argued that his encounter with serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, had made an negative impact on Edward's life, leading to the situation for which he was being charged. Dahmer admitted to killing 17 young men and boys from 1987-1991. Edwards name became known after he escaped Dahmer's apartment and was able to flag down police.
Edwards, 52, pleaded guilty to the charge of aiding a felon in a plea agreement, which was reduced from the first-degree charge of recklessly endangering safety. Ksicinski and Assistant District Attorney Mark Williams asked Judge Rebecca Dallet to sentence Edwards to probation. The judge decided to sentence Edwards to a year and a half in prison.
Edwards was Dahmer's 18th victim. In the 1992 trial against Dahmer, Edwards testified in court saying that he had met Dahmer in a Milwaukee mall. He reported that he went to Dahmer's apartment, where the two struggled as Dahmer attempted to handcuff him to the bed.
"At one point, he said he was going to eat my heart," Edwards said in trial. "For some reason, God told me not to let this guy handcuff me. He laid across me and put his head across my chest and was listening to my heart."
When Edwards escaped, he was able to flag down police who noticed the dangling cuff from his wrist. Dahmer immediately reported the incident and led police back to Dahmer's apartment.
When police investigated the apartment they found numerous skulls, body parts, and photograph's which depicted Dahmer's many crimes. Dahmer was later sentenced to life in prison, where he was murdered in 1994.
