Jenna Bush Hager Pregnant, Confirms 'Springtime Baby' on 'Today' Show
Jenna Bush Hager, daughter of former president George Bush, has confirmed her pregnancy after reports and photographs showed her with a fuller figure. Hager and her husband made the announcement on the "Today" show where she is a correspondent.
"I'm pregnant! We're so excited and obviously nervous about it. I'm a first-time mom, but it's something that I've always wanted. I'm a teacher and I love kids. It's a springtime baby," she confirmed to Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie. She was then joined on-set with her husband, who presented her with a bouquet of flowers.
This is the first grandchild for George and Laura Bush, and the new grandparents could not be more excited. "I'm thrilled!" Laura said via phone. "I'm fired up!" added George.
Hager has been busy ever since leaving the White House. Not only does she work as an NBC correspondent, she was recently named Editor-at-Large of the iconic "Southern Living" magazine. In addition to overseeing the magazine, she will contribute a monthly column and keep up the Daily South blog.
While she and Hager are currently still in New York City, it is entirely possible that they will relocate to be closer to the magazine and Jenna's family in Texas. She told the New York Times she often felt "kind of like a homesick Texan living in New York."
She told People magazine last year, "I don't' have any children. I just have a cat, to my parents' dismay. My dad saw my husband's boss at a conference, and he said to stop paying my husband until we produce children."
Even President Bush admitted to wanting grandchildren sooner rather than later.
"I'm a little disappointed it hasn't happened yet," he told AARP. "But the more disappointment I show, the less likely it is [that] things are going to happen on the time table I want."
Now he only has to wait or nature to take its course and the spring to arrive.
