Jennifer Aniston, John Mayer Reconnect? Singer Reached Out to 'Make Amends' Years After Split

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer reportedly reconnected last month, three years after their public split.

The "Paper Doll" singer, 36, reportedly reached out to Aniston, 45, in the wake of his February split from Katy Perry.

Mayer first began dating the Hollywood actress in Feb. 2008 however they parted ways in March 2009 and he once opened up about the split in an interview and in his 2012 song "Shadow Days." A new report claims that the singer's therapist recently encouraged him to reach out to all of those he hurt in his past including Aniston.

"He's trying to make amends for being such an ass to Jen during and after the time they dated," a source told OK! Magazine.

Mayer reportedly left the "We're The Millers" star a heartfelt voicemail message in April which prompted her to hear him out and they have since stayed in touch. Aniston is currently engaged to actor Justin Theroux and the insider claims he is frustrated with Mayer.

"Justin went bananas," the source said. "He isn't cool with John being in Jen's life, especially after the stories she told him about how horribly John treated her."

Mayer once opened up about his split from Aniston after working out at an Equinox Gym in New York's SoHo neighborhood.

"There's no lying, there's no cheating, there's no nothing," Mayer told reporters according to People magazine.

"Jennifer Aniston is the smartest, most sophisticated person I think I have ever met. People are different, people have different chemistry," explained Mayer, who reportedly appeared emotional, nervous and sad. "I ended a relationship to be alone, because I don't want to waste somebody's time if something's not right."

Mayer is still said to be coming to terms with his split from Perry, who he dated on-and-off for two years.

"[Katy] found text messages on John's phone from some random girl," a source told The New York Post's Page Six adding the split was "mutual" and "extremely amicable."
