Jennifer Aniston Named 'Dirtbag' by MTV
Jennifer Aniston has been called many things by many people, but now she can officially be called a dirtbag. The actress won the famed On-Screen Dirtbag award at last night's MTV Awards for her role in "Horrible Bosses."
"Do you know how long I have tried to have somebody let me unleash my onscreen dirtbag?" Aniston joked. "A long time, and thank God this category just popped up!" Aniston was nominated after her role in the hit movie "Horrible Bosses," in which she played a dentist who sexually harassed her assistant.
Before the film aired, Aniston spoke with the Toronto Sun about the break from her traditional roles.
"There's always a risk, but that's the fun. You don't want to play it safe all the time," she explained. "I never had a script come to me before that let me go in this direction, so it was a great opportunity. I just thought it would be fun for everybody."
"Horrible Bosses" featured Aniston among the likes of Bradley Cooper, Jason Bateman, and Charlie Day. Aniston is one of the three title characters who make life miserable for their co-workers.
"That's what was so fun about it," she added. "I thought of her as just kind of like a guy."
Aniston, who skyrocketed to fame after appearing on NBC's hit series "Friends," made sure to thank those on the show. "I would like to say thank you to the television show 'Friends' for letting me unleash my inner sweetheart. And here's to [director] Seth Gordon for letting me be a dirtbag."
In speaking with the Toronto Sun, Aniston noted that she "didn't take the role [in 'Horrible Bosses'] to rid myself of that title (sweetheart). There are so many different, ah, American Sweethearts. I took it because I loved it and thought it would be a fun challenge and fun for me to step out of what people usually like to see me play."
Aniston recently starred in "Wanderlust," and is scheduled to appear in "Miss You Already" and an untitled project by Elmore Leonard, which are both in pre-production.
